I love paintings where the artist understands this…….. because in part it evokes an emotional response……it tells a truth……..it goes beyond a diagram or coloured drawing……..it replicates a reality ……..it’s an image captured at a precise moment, neither before or after……at a vital moment when the light moves across the subject in such a way that it compels the artist to paint.
